ASUU UPDATE

The Academic Staff Union of Universities,
ASUU, has said its striking members would
go back to the classrooms only if its
demands are met.
ASUU President Dr. Nasir Fagge, who stated
this on Wednesday, maintained it was better
to get it right once and for all instead of
palliative measures that would not help the
system.
Fagge said that government had established
the attitude of making promises without
fulfilling, adding that until the 2009
agreement was implemented, universities
will remain closed.
Meanwhile
The House of Representatives Committee on
Education has appealed to the Federal
Government and the Academic Staff Union of
Universities to end the ongoing strike.
Members of the committee led by its
Chairman, Mr. Aminu Suleiman, made the
appeal on Wednesday during an ongoing
tour of the federal universities across the
country
He lamented that the industrial action by
ASUU had persisted but expressed optimism
that it would soon be called off.
