Oba Of Ikeja Lagos Is Dead (Photo)

Markets located in Ikeja area of Lagos State were Wednesday shutdown following the death of the Olu of Ikeja, Oba Rauf Adeniyi Aremu Matemi Amore 1.
Though Amore was said to have died on Tuesday at the age of 61, the Council of Chiefs immediately issued an order prohibiting sales of goods in markets within the area yesterday. It was gathered that despite the fact that all shops were shut, the palace was agog with activities and masquerade going about.
The masquerades, who provided excitement for passer-by, were accompanied by drummers surging backwards and forward in a show of intimidation. To this end, consumers, who thronged the popular ComputerVillage to shop for electronics, phone accessories and software, were disappointed as all the shops were shut.
Some traders were also seen making brisk sales on the sidelines, even as the Palace guards were also seen enforcing the order to close down shops in honour of the late Oba. By early afternoon, Oriyomi Street was cordoned-off by palace officials. One of the chiefs clad in white was spotted directly adjacent the palace, followed by a palace worker armed with a female goat and a cutlass.
Though his intention was not explained to many residents who stood afar to watch, the passers-by were told to take nearby streets to their destinations to avert being hurt. Some traders were seen discussing that it was rumoured that some form of sacrifice would be required following the passing on of the oba, according to traditional rites.
