Riot Hits Kano As Residents Protest After Sanusi Lamido is Announced New Emir of Kano By State Government

According to sources, some residents of Kano state have taken to the streets to protest the announcement of Nigeria's former Central Bank Governor, Lamido Sanusi Lamido as the new Emir of Kano. The confusion started when it was earlier announced that Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero is the new Emir of Kano, then without warning, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was later announced as the new Emir of Kano after the throne became vacant on Friday following the former monarch, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
According to the information from Jamil Abubakar, son of Inspector General of Police, riot has broken out in Kano state following the announcement of former CBN governor Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano. The protest started at the Kofar Kudu area, near the Emir's palace when residents of the neighbouring streets trooped out to the palace area in opposition to the choice.Tyres were set on fire and few roads blocked as they shouted, "Ba muso, ba muso'', meaning, "we don't want, we don't want" in apparent reference to the choice of Sanusi by the state government.
Jamil says the people of Kano are not happy with the announcement and are causing trouble in the town. He however says the situation has been brought under control and no life was lost.
