250 runners for Centenary Beach Marathon

NO fewer than 250 athletes have entered for the Centenary Beach Marathon event to mark Nigeria's 100 years of nationhood.
The event will start at the Elegushi Beach and terminate at Lekki in Lagos.
The winner of the race will go home with N100.000, while other top finishers will have consolation prizes.
The organiser of the event, Obuesi Phillips, confirmed that over 250 athletes had signified their interest in the event.
"We have received applications from within and outside Lagos. Some athletes from Jos, Plateau State and Cross River State have applied to be at the centenary celebration. They will be supporting the campaign for cervical cancer awareness during the race," Phillips said.
Other highlights of the race will be the honouring of selected sports personalities as Peace Advocates for their sterling contributions to peace building in Nigeria through sports development.
Some of the recipients of the awards are Falilat Ogunkoya-Omotayo, Henry Amike, Enofiok Udo-Obong and Desmond Majekodunmi.
