Tuface gives back to the society
Tuface Idibia is happy. Apart from the joy of witnessing another birthday, his wife, Annie, is also pregnant. That is not all. Last weekend, US rap star, Chingy, announced ontwitter, a collaboration with Tuface and UK afro beats artiste, May7ven.
It is, therefore, no surprise that Tubaba, as he is fondly called, marked his birthday in style in the city of Jos.
He didn't forget his fans though. He gave them back a little through his non-governmental organisation, Tuface Idibia Reachout Foundation, which organised Tuface Peace Awards.
Three winners emerged from the awards which held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja. These winners got N1m each. They were to use it in furthering the various peace causes they had been involved in.
The winners were selected from a pool of young people aged between 18 to 35, whose initiatives have helped in promoting peace in their areas for at least 18 months.
The first recipient, Kyenpiya Makan-Nyabam is of the CLAPAI (Child Love And Protection Advocacy Initiative) Orphanage, Jos. CLAPAI was set-up in 2006 by Kyenpiya and her husband, Emmanuel, an ex-professional footballer, to cater for children orphaned, affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. They also care for children outside the orphanage.
The second recipient is the Christian Muslim Peace Movement which is based in Bauchi and Jos. The group of young volunteers led by Aminu Sidi are involved in conflict mediation, peace sensitisation and other activities in schools and communities.
The third winner, Zainab Sandah, is involved in mobilising and assisting the conflict prone Rigassa community in Kaduna State.
Tuface charged the winners to continue in their efforts to support the poor and promote peace in Nigeria. He explained that the MVP was meant to re-orientate the "mindset of Nigerians to realise the senselessness in many of the conflicts and killings going on".
He said, "Most times when they tell you the reason for some of the conflicts, you will be very surprised and disappointed. As award winners, you are now peace ambassadors. People will be more interested in what you do. You have to continue to maintain the high standards you have set."
