‘Rotary club not a secret cult’

The immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Gbagada, Dr.Bayo Windapo, has said that the club is an humanitarian organisation, and not a secret cult.
Windapo said this at the investiture of the 30th President of the Rotary Club and induction of its board members for 2013-2014 in Lagos on Sunday.
"We are into helping the country and society where we operate to become a better place for the less-privileged. We want people to come close to us and see that we are not a secret cult but humanitarian organisation," he said.
Windapo also called on youths to stop engaging in destructive activities but join social and service -oriented clubs in order to contribute their quota to the development of the country.
"The restiveness in the society lies within our youths and we cannot let it continue. We must empower them with skills and training they need to become our leaders of tomorrow," he said.
Also, the incoming president of the club, Mr. Adetayo Adelaja, charged non-governmental organisations in the country to join the transformation agenda of the government by embarking on poverty alleviation projects.
Adelaja said," Every problem in Nigeria revolves around poverty, unemployment and frustration. If our youths are positively engaged, they won't be kidnapping, stealing or throwing bombs. We have the responsibility to do something."
To address restiveness among youths, Adelaja said the organisation had inaugurated youth-oriented projects in the area of sports and education.
He also announced that more than 20 indigenes had benefited from its empowerment and vocational training scheme.
