Marseille slam door on Andre suitors
Ghana midfielder Andre 'Dede' Ayew will stay at Marseille for at least another season following several efforts by top European clubs to get him.
"Despite several requests from European clubs in recent weeks, OM is pleased to announce that Andre Ayew continues his adventure in his first club," Marseille said in a statement on Monday.
Andre Ayew had been linked with Liverpool, Inter Milan and Napoli this summer despite Marseille insisting that the player is not for sale.
The son of the Abedi Pele had been valued at £8.5m and is reported to have had a buy-out clause of £15.5m, but the 23 year old has produced some eye-catching already in the short time the Ligue 1 has been on.
Following a barnstorming game against Monaco on Sunday in which OM lost 2-1, the player's club are convinced of his commitment ahead of domestic and European competitions.
"With the approach of important deadlines in the Champions League but also in the league, the Olympian striker is an essential part of the life of the team and the game plan put in place by Elie Baup," the Marseille statement went on.
It finished: "Marseille's leaders had made it a priority to keep in the workforce André elected again, best player of the game Sunday night against Monaco."
The player is expected in Ghana on Monday night as his country prepare to face Zambia in World Cup qualifying on September 6.
